SPEND FRIDAY NIGHT WITH THE ZIPS
It will be a busy Friday night on campus for Zips Athletics, with
Volleyball and Women's Soccer competing and Men's and Women's
Basketball holding its annual "Meet the Teams"
event. We hope you can make it out to one or all of these
events.
Volleyball faces Western Michigan at 7 p.m. at James A. Rhodes
Arena for a match that will be broadcast on Time Warner
Cable SportsChannel as part of the Mid-American Conference's
new TV lineup. The Basketball "Meet the Teams" event starts at 6
p.m. in the arena. Fans will be able to get autographs and pose for
pictures with student-athletes and coaches from each team. Both the
volleyball match and basketball event are free.
Volleyball also will wear pink uniforms on Friday in support of
breast cancer research. There will be several items up for auction
and pink t-shirts for sale for $10, with proceeds benefitting that
cause.
Women's Soccer takes on Central Michigan on Friday at 7 p.m. at
FirstEnergy Stadium – Cub Cadet Field. It will be "Senior
Night" as it is the team's last Friday home match.
Additionally at home this weekend, Volleyball takes on Northern
Illinois on Saturday at 5 p.m., and Women's Soccer faces Bowling
Green on Sunday at noon. The Women's Soccer team will wear pink
jerseys that day in support of breast cancer research, with pink
t-shirts for sale in support of the cause.
Tickets for both soccer matches and Saturday's volleyball contest
are available on ZipsTickets.com or by calling our ticket office at

WOMEN'S GOLF WRAPS UP SOLID FALL SEASON
Congrats to Women's Golf, which finished its fall season earlier this week in a tie for
sixth place at the Rocket Classic in Port Clinton, Ohio. It was
the team's fourth top-10 finish in four events.
Freshman Lina Bengtsson is one of the leaders on the team and also
one of the best rookies in the MAC. She finished the fall with a
76.45 scoring average, second among all MAC freshmen and ninth-best
among all players in the league. She was the Zips' top performer or
shared top-performer honors in three-of-four events this fall and
had three top-25 finishes.
We are excited to see the team compete in the spring.
SOFTBALL ALUMNI CHALLENGE
Our softball program will go against rival Kent State in an Alumni Challenge. Announced last week, the goal of the
competition is to enhance financial support for both programs
through monetary gifts made by former student-athletes, and their
families and friends.
For every donation made, that specific team will earn an RBI. The
program that receives the most RBIs will be the winner. Donors will
be entered into various drawings throughout the year as well, with
prizes such as tickets to the Zips-Flashes Football game on Nov. 2
and Zips Softball apparel available.
HOOPS MEDIA DAY
Our men's and women's basketball teams will hold their annual Media
Day, presented by Wentz Financial Group, to preview the
season on Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 11:30 a.m. Again this year, the
event will be video streamed on GoZips.com and broadcast locally on
SportsRadio1350.com and nationally on iHeartRadio. Details about where to watch the video
stream will be posted on GoZips.com next week. Fans are able to
participate in the event by submitting a question for our coaches
and student-athletes by tweeting it to @FollowTheRoo.
BASKETBALL TV SCHEDULE ANNOUNCED
Our Men's and Women's Basketball teams will make at least 10
combined appearances on television this season. The MAC announced
its TV package earlier this week, which is the largest in league
history.
The men's team will appear seven times on Time Warner Cable
SportsChannel, with four additional opportunities on TWC or an ESPN
family network to be selected three weeks out from gameday, while
the women will make three appearances on TWC SportsChannel.
Season tickets are available for purhase on ZipsTickets.com or by calling
our ticket office at 1-888-99-AKRON (25766).
Both teams start their regular season at home with a doubleheader
on Friday, Nov. 8. The Women face Florida Atlantic at 5:30 p.m. and
the Men tip off against Coastal Carolina at 8 p.m.
Throughout the evening, the Men will be honored for their MAC
regular-season and tournament titles, and the Women for their MAC
East Division championship. We will have celebratory giveaways for
fans that day – mini banners commemorating the Women's
championship and replica rings recognizing the Men's titles.
