SATURDAY MORNING HOOPS DOUBLEHEADER
Saturday will be exciting and busy at Rhodes Arena as Men's and
Women's Basketball play host to a doubleheader. The Men's game
against Toledo will be televised nationally on ESPNU and tip off at
11 a.m., while the Women take on rival Kent State 30 minutes after
the Men's game ends. One ticket is good for both games.
The Men's game should be a fun matchup between the Mid-American
Conference's two divisional favorites and the Women's game will be
the latest installment in the PNC Wagon Wheel
Challenge against KSU, which we currently lead, 3-2. We look
forward to having you in the stands for both games.
The first two thousand fans will receive LeBron
James "I Promise" wristbands, while UA students in attendance will
have the opportunity to win a pair of Beats headphones, with 20
being awarded throughout the two games. We will also celebrate our
second annual LeBron James Family Foundation Day, with more
than 700 local elementary school students and their families who
participated in the LJFF's Wheels for Education program as our
guests.
Tommy Evans Lounge will be open prior to and at halftime of the
Men's game as well as between the games.
Tickets are available on ZipsTickets.com or by calling our ticket office at
1-888-99-AKRON (25766).
The games will be broadcast locally on SportsRadio1350.com (1350 AM) and nationally on iHeartRadio.
STUDENT-ATHLETE DEAN'S LIST RECOGNITION
During halftime of Saturday's Men's Basketball game against
Toledo, we will recognize the student-athletes who qualified for
the Dean's List in the 2013 spring and/or fall semesters. I am
proud to announce that 337 student-athletes, spirit squad and pep
band members can claim this honor.
An individual who posts at least a 3.25 grade-point average earns
a spot on the Dean's List. Please join us in helping applaud the
hard work of those individuals!

IMPACT 2020
In December, we unveiled a
comprehensive seven-year strategic plan titled IMPACT 2020. The
plan features our new mission statement: To have a positive and
meaningful IMPACT on the people and communities we serve. It
also mirrors the university-wide strategic plan Vision
2020.
Dozens of student-athletes, coaches, administrators and fans have
filmed video testimonials in which they individually
describe the impact of Zips Athletics on their lives and vice
versa. We have heard from many of you and look forward to continued
feedback as we shape the future of Zips Athletics.
You can submit your testimonial in any of the following ways:
• A short video e-mailed to AkronAthletics@gmail.com as a .mov attachment
• A written testimonial in the body of an e-mail sent to AkronAthletics@gmail.com
• A post on the feedback form on the IMPACT 2020
feedback web page
• A post on Twitter or Facebook using the hashtag #ZipsIMPACT
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL ZIPS TRIP
There is still room available on the Women's Basketball Z-Fund fan
bus trip to Eastern Michigan on Sunday, Jan. 26. Since that game
starts at 2 p.m., the bus will leave campus at 10:15 a.m. and
immediately following the game will stop at the Hollywood Casino in
Toledo. You can reserve your spot by paying $35, which includes
travel and a game ticket. RSVP to Micklos Blake with the Z-Fund at
(330) 972-7142 or by e-mail.
The fan bus trip to watch the Men's double-overtime
victory at Ohio on Sunday sold out.
2014 FOOTBALL SCHEDULE
In case you missed it, last week Football learned its home and away opponents for the Mid-American
Conference part of the 2014 season. We will face Bowling Green,
Eastern Michigan, Massachusetts and Miami (Ohio) at home in the
fall, and travel to Ball State, Buffalo, Kent State and Ohio. The
league office will announce dates for those games at a later
date.
As was previously announced, our non-conference schedule features
home games against Howard on Thursday, Aug. 28, and Marshall on
Saturday, Sept. 20, along with away contests at Penn State (Sept.
6) and Pittsburgh (Sept. 27).
Information regarding season tickets will be announced in early
February. Also, please be sure to mark Wednesday, Feb. 5 on your
calendar for National Signing Day. Later this month we will
announce details for our annual open-to-the-public event on campus
that day to introduce the newest Zips before our Men’s
Basketball home game that night.

CELEBRATION OF LIFE FOR ALAN
ARRINGTON
We would love for you to join us on Thursday, Jan. 23 at 5 p.m. on
the fifth floor of InfoCision Stadium for a Memorial and Celebration of Life for Football Assistant
Head Coach Alan "Tank" Arrington, who passed away in December
following an automobile accident in Mississippi.
This will provide an opportunity for those student-athletes,
department staff and those within the Akron community who were
unable to attend his memorial service in Mississippi last month to
have an opportunity to remember him and pay their respects.
Tank was one of the most outgoing and enthusiastic people I have
ever known, and that will be the theme of next week's tribute.
Please join us if you can.
