UA ON DISPLAY SATURDAY – AND SO IS ZIPS FOOTBALL
We’re looking forward to plenty of activities surrounding Saturday’s 3:30 p.m. kickoff as our Football team faces Morgan State at InfoCision Stadium – Summa Field.
We have many promotions for this day, including:
-UA on Display: A unique, on-campus event at which prospective college students who register at the Stile Athletic Field House will have the opportunity to speak with representatives from UA’s colleges and schools, to network with UA alumni, to tour campus, and to eat and attend the game (with up to three complimentary tickets) courtesy of the University. If you know of someone who might be interested in attending this event, they can register or find additional information here.
-Band Day: At least 11 high school bands from Northeast Ohio will attend the game and perform on the field at halftime with “Ohio’s Pride,” the UA Marching Band.
-Youth Day: All children (14 and under) will receive a free football mini-helmet as they enter the gate of the stadium, and they can have it filled with ice cream at the Gate 3 Guest Services window. All children (14 and under) can go onto the field after the game for a photo opportunity. General Admission tickets are available for children ages 3 to 14 (must purchase by calling 888-99-AKRON or visiting the ticket office) for a discounted rate of $10 (normally $15).
-Scout Day: Boy Scouts will be attending the game and then spending the night at InfoCision Stadium sleeping on the field. For your Scout to participate, call Ryan Schmidt at (330) 972-5267.
-AAA Day: All AAA members can show their membership card at the ticket office to buy two general admission tickets for just $20 (a $10 savings)
Let’s not forget the main event of the day, our Football team looking for its first win of the season. We are eager to return to the field after a thrilling, inspiring and, yes, disappointing 41-38 overtime loss Saturday at Florida International. I’m proud of how the team has prepared for the game this week, and I hope you are as eager as I am to watch them compete. Trust me if you haven’t seen us play yet: We’re a lot of fun to watch.
COMPLIANCE NOTE OF THE WEEK
This weekend's UA on Display is the culmination of a campus-wide effort to showcase the very best about our great institution. Normally under NCAA rules, all students in grades 9 through 12 are considered "prospective student-athletes" regardless of their participation in athletics. Since this event was organized by our Office of Admissions, it is considered a Visit Unrelated to Recruitment and does not fall under as strict of recruiting rules. If these students participating in UA on Display were brought in by Athletics, it would be considered an Unofficial Visit and be subject to stricter guidelines.
SOCCER IN THE SPOTLIGHT
The soccer world will be watching when our No. 9 Men’s Soccer team faces No. 10 St. John’s at 7 p.m. tomorrow (please note the time – 30 minutes earlier than our usual start time) at FirstEnergy Stadium – Cub Cadet Field. This match will be televised live on Fox Soccer Channel, which is available internationally. We’re already tracking for a larger crowd than we had three weeks ago for the home opener against Florida Gulf Coast, so please arrive early.
We also face 11th-ranked South Florida at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, after our Women’s Soccer team hosts Marshall at 3 p.m. Sunday at FirstEnergy Stadium – Cub Cadet Field. Our Women won a thriller Sunday, defeating Canisius, 1-0 with a goal in the 86th minute, and are now 4-2-0.
Our two men’s matches this weekend are part of The University of Akron Tournament, which begins Friday at 3:30 p.m. with Butler-USF and also includes St. John’s-Butler at noon Sunday. Both of those matches are free to the public, and we will clear the stadium immediately after each match.
We have a new Pick 5 plan available online for Men’s Soccer fans who want the chance to attend five or our seven remaining regular season home games as our team pursues its championship goals, led by Caleb Porter in his final season as our head coach. While supplies last, this plan includes our exclusive season ticketholder soccer scarf.
