HIGHLIGHTS FROM HOMECOMING WEEKEND …
It was great to welcome back to campus so many student-athlete alums last weekend for Homecoming! There was a festive pregame atmosphere around Zips Fest and in Coleman Common on Saturday before the football game against Bowling Green.
One of the highlights of the weekend for me was our Title IX Reception on Saturday morning. Over 200 current and former Zips female student-athletes, and their families and friends, participated in a special event as part of our year-long celebration of the 40th anniversary of Title IX. Two of our female individual national champions, Jenna Compton (rifle) and Christi Smith (track and field), spoke about how their lives have been impacted by this legislation.

MEN'S SOCCER V. MICHIGAN ON TUESDAY, OCT. 16 …
Next Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. men's soccer will go up against Big Ten opponent Michigan at FirstEnergy Stadium – Cub Cadet Field on campus. As Coach Caleb Porter's squad starts the stretch run of the regular-season it's important to have as much fan support as possible at our home games. Here's a special video message from Coach.
That will be UA Pride Night and fans can exchange another school's t-shirt for a Zips Athletics t-shirt (while supplies last). The exchanged shirts will be donated to an area homeless shelter.
HOOPS MEDIA DAY …
Our men's and women's basketball teams will hold their annual media day to preview the season on Wednesday, Oct. 24. As it was last year, the event will be video streamed on GoZips.com.
Fans are able to participate in the event by submitting a question for our coaches and student-athletes by tweeting it to @FollowTheRoo.
The women's team officially started practice last Wednesday and the men's team will begin on Friday.
BASKETBALL RENEWAL DEADLINE, AND SELECT-A-SEAT …
Please note that our renewal deadline for men’s basketball season tickets was last Friday (Oct. 5). For those of you who haven't done please call 1-888-99-AKRON (25766) or visit here for more information. There’s greater demand than ever for Zips Basketball – as evident by many of our games being cleared for television – so don’t lose your seats by delaying your renewal.
On Oct. 20 at 4 p.m., we’ll host a Select-a-Seat event in Rhodes Arena (conveniently after the noon Football game vs. Northern Illinois and before Volleyball hosts Central Michigan at 5 p.m.) for new season ticketholders and those of you who want to add more seats.
