Basketball Media Day Set for Oct. 24

AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron basketball programs will hold their annual Basketball Media Day on Wednesday, Oct. 24, inside the Tommy Evans Lounge at James A. Rhodes Arena.
Men's head coach Keith Dambrot, women's head coach Jodi Kest and select student-athletes will address the media regarding the 2012-13 season and will discuss their teams, schedules, the Mid-American Conference and other topics in advance of their respective exhibition games.
The media day event can be viewed live online via live stream broadcast beginning at 11:30 a.m. ET. Fans can go to Akron's live streaming page on mac-sports.com to watch the event in its entirety.
For the second-straight year, Zips fans will be able to participate in the Akron Basketball Media Day by submitting questions for Coach Kest, Coach Dambrot and the student-athletes during the media day event. Fans can submit their questions by tweeting @FollowtheRoo.
New to basketball media day will be the addition of two social media correspondents. Two Akron students will be chosen to cover media day as a member of the media, including covering men's and women's practice before and after media day, as well as interacting with other members of the media, the coaching staffs and student-athletes. Students can apply online by CLICKING HERE and must apply before 5 p.m. ET on Thursday, Oct. 18.
Coach Kest, redshirt junior Rachel Tecca, junior Sina King and senior Taylor Ruper will open the media day festivities to discuss the upcoming women's basketball season. Following a brief intermission, Coach Dambrot, seniors Zeke Marshall and Brian Walsh, and junior Alex Abreu will address the media at approximately noon to discuss the men's campaign as the Zips look to repeat as MAC Regular Season Champions.
An updated schedule of events will be announced at a later date.
The men's program opens its season on Wednesday, Oct. 31, when it plays host to Tiffin at 7 p.m. UA will conclude exhibition play against Malone on Saturday, Nov. 3, at 5 p.m. before opening the season at Coastal Carolina on Friday, Nov. 9, at 7:30 p.m.
The women's program will play host to Malone in its only exhibition game on Saturday, Nov. 3, at 2 p.m., before opening the regular season with a home tilt against Hiram on Sat., Nov. 10, at noon.
