AKRON, Ohio – Junior QB Thomas Woodson (Monroeville, Pa.) has been tabbed the Zips' Student-Athlete of the Month, presented by The University of Akron, for September 2016.
Woodson led the Akron offense through a difficult schedule to open the 2016 season.
In the season opener, he guided Akron to a 47-24 win over VMI in his 11th consecutive starting nod at quarterback. He went 23-of-32 for a career-high 407 yards and a career-best and school record six touchdowns. Woodson finished with 420 yards of total offense. His 23 completions tied his career high. He earned MAC Offensive Player of the Week honors as well as Zips' Student-Athlete of the Week accolades.
At No. 10 Wisconsin, Woodson went 9-of-19 for 108 yards. In the 65-38 win at Marshall, Woodson went 21-of-32 for 379 yards and four passing touchdowns while running for a three-yard score of his own.
Against Appalachian State, he had a career-high 31 completions on 43 attempts for 353 yards and three touchdowns. The Zips' 34 points in the second quarter were the third most points scored in a quarter in program history, while the Zips' 65 points tied for the second most in program history.
After four games, Woodson is 84-of-126 for 1,247 yards and 13 touchdowns. He is just four TDs shy of his total mark from last fall after just four contests.
Woodson currently stands No. 6 on the career chart for passing yard (4,255) and No. 4 in passing touchdowns (34).
