Griffiths Leads Akron on Opening Day of Northeast Ohio Open

AKRON, Ohio – Redshirt senior Gabrielle Griffiths (Fort Worth, Texas) won a pair of events to headline the performances of the Akron track and field team on the opening day of the Northeast Ohio Open on Thursday (April 9) at the Lee R. Jackson Track and Field Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Griffiths captured the women's hammer with a career-best mark of 194-9 (59.36m), the No. 5 mark in outdoor program history. She then bested the field in the women's javelin with a mark of 145-9.50 (44.44m).
• Redshirt senior Lane Graham (Killbuck, Ohio) won the men's hammer with a throw of 207-9.25 (63.33m), while junior Christopher Vance (Parma, Ohio) finished second with a mark of 193-8 (59.03m).
• Junior Olin Frank (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) placed second in the men's javelin with a mark of 179-6.25 (54.72m).
• Redshirt senior Brook Boes (Tiffin, Ohio) finished second in the women's hammer with a career-best throw of 188-4.50 (57.42m).

UP NEXT:
Akron concludes the Northeast Ohio Open on Friday (April 10) with competition at the Lee R. Jackson Track and Field Complex getting underway at noon.
