No. 15 Akron Earns Trio of Wins Over Weekend

READING, Mass. -Â The 15th-ranked University of Akron rifle team traveled to Massachusetts this weekend and earned a trio of wins. The Zips (4679) defeated MIT (4419) and Norwich University (4358) on Saturday (Feb. 7) in Cambridge, Mass., before Akron (4698) defeated MIT (4414) in Reading, Mass., on Sunday (Feb. 8).
On Saturday at Dupont Rifle Range in Cambridge Mass., the team was led by freshman Matthew Kimball (Pineville, La.) with a team high 584, 595, and 1179 in smallbore, air rifle, and combined respectively. Seniors Natalia Siek (Flemington, N.J.) and Rachael Paddock (Perry, N.Y.) were close behind firing 581, 594, 1175 and 572, 585, 1157 respectively. Rounding out the top four for Akron were juniors Logan McClimans (Jamestown, Pa.) with a 577 smallbore, and Kaleb Santiso (Ridgway,Pa.) firing a 591 air rifle, tying his season best. Other seasons bests included Santiso with a 1168 combined and redshirt-Senior Sally Reeke (Clifton, Va.) with a 568 smallbore.
Sunday at Reading Rifle and Revolver in Reading, Mass., featured a close battle between Paddock (589, 591, 1180) and Siek (582, 595, 1177). Rounding out the top four for the Zips were Kimball (579, 591, 1170), McClimans with a 580 smallbore, and senior Joey Hahn (Middle Grove, N.Y.) with a 591 air rifle. Season bests on Sunday included McClimans 1168 combined, a season and personal best, and freshman Kathleen Moran (Buffalo, N.Y.) firing a 585 smallbore.
Akron returns home to Robert A. Pinn Shooting Range to face Army-West Point on Saturday (Feb.) for Senior Day.
