Chrisman Racks Up Three Hits in Akron's Loss to Western Illinois

MILLINGTON, Tenn.-Â The Akron Zips got a boost from Brody Chrisman, who totaled three hits in a 10-6 loss to the Western Illinois Leathernecks on Sunday.
In addition to his three hits, Chrisman had a double to lead the Zips. Easton Amundson compiled a standout day at the dish as well, going 1-for-4 with a home run, a walk and three RBI. Brennan Morgan also contributed for Akron, putting together one hit in four trips to the plate while adding a walk and an RBI.
Josiah Ross took the loss out of the pen for Akron (3-4). Jeremiah Newman was a bright spot for the Zips, coming out of the bullpen and throwing two scoreless innings, allowing no hits, with three walks and four strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Zips got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with three runs in the top of the first inning. Akron scored three times, all of them coming across on a three-run homer off the bat of Amundson.
The Leathernecks then rallied to score four runs and take a 4-3 lead before the Zips got back on the board in the second. Akron scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Morgan, which evened the score at 4-4.
Western Illinois broke that tie and grabbed a 7-4 lead heading into the sixth, when Akron narrowed the gap to 7-5.
The Leathernecks expanded their lead to 10-5 before the Akron offense got back in gear, cutting into that lead in the eighth. Chrisman crossed home plate with the lone run of the inning for the Zips, bringing the score to 10-6 in favor of Western Illinois. The Zips were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.
