NEW YORK, N.Y. — Three Akron men's soccer players have earned BIG EAST weekly honors following the Zips' dominant 5-0 victory over Villanova — their lone match of the week.
Matthew Paiva notched Defensive Player of the Week, Brett Kaminski earned Goalkeeper of the Week and Farrel Ngongang received a spot on the conference's Weekly Honor Roll.
Paiva notched his second Defensive Player of the Week honor this year, as the senior scored his fifth goal of the season while helping anchor a Zips defense that posted its sixth clean sheet of the year. The five-goal performance marked Akron's highest-scoring BIG EAST match in program history.
Kaminski made five saves and did not allow a goal across 90 minutes in what amounted to his second Goalkeeper of the Week honor this season. The junior stopped all five shots on goal he faced to earn his sixth shutout of the season. His five saves were the most he has recorded in any of his clean sheets this year.
Ngongang scored twice in just 31 minutes. The sophomore recorded his second multi-goal performance in as many weeks and has now registered at least one point in three consecutive matches.
The trio will be back in action on Friday, November 6 at 7 p.m. on the road against Marquette in their regular season finale.
