Akron Sits Fifth After Opening Day of Butler Fall Invitational

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Akron women's golf team completed the opening 36 holes of the Butler Fall Invitational on Monday at Highland Country Club, finishing the day in fifth place with a 596 (+36) team score.
The Zips opened the tournament with a 302 (+22) in the first round before shaving eight strokes off their score with a 294 (+14) in the second round.
Sohniya Chandra Mohan led Akron through the opening day, carding rounds of 74 (+4) and 72 (+2) for a 36-hole total of 146 (+6). Mohan's even-par second round featured birdies on holes 10 and 17 as she finished the day tied for 11th overall.
Kirida Na Songkhla also sits inside the top 25 after rounds of 72 (+2) and 76 (+6) for a 148 (+8) total. Na Songkhla opened the tournament with Akron's lowest round of the morning, using four birdies to post a 2-over 72.
Akron received a pair of strong bounce-back performances during the afternoon round. Thitirat Silakham followed an opening-round 78 with a 74 (+4), while Kaitlin Kormuth improved six strokes from her opening 80 to card a 74 (+4) in Round 2. Silakham enters the final round at 152 (+12), while Kormuth stands at 154 (+14).
Amara Montoya rounded out the Akron lineup with rounds of 78 (+8) and 74 (+4) for a 152 (+12) total.
Competing as an individual, Katrin Danielsdottir posted back-to-back rounds of 83 (+13) for a two-round score of 166 (+26).
The Zips return to Highland Country Club Tuesday for the final 18 holes of the Butler Fall Invitational.
