AKRON, Ohio -Â The University of Akron men's soccer team held No. 8 Saint Louis (4-2-3) scoreless and ran away with a 3-0 shutout win on Tuesday (Sept. 23) at FirstEnergy Stadium.
How it Happened
Akron (6-2-1) grabbed a 1-0 lead when redshirt sophomore Caleb Borneo (Morgantown, W.Va.) scored his third goal of the season in the 34th minute (33:11) on a successful penalty kick.
The Zips increased their lead to 2-0 on a goal from sophomore Remi Agunbiade (Toronto, Ontario), his second goal of the season, at the 61:01 mark, assisted by senior Stefan Dobrijevic (Uniontown, Ohio) and junior Jack Sullivan (Potomac, Md.).
Akron expanded its lead to 3-0 on sophomore Jack Roman's (Canfield, Ohio) 67th-minute goal (66:01), his team-leading fourth on the campaign. Dobrijevic and Agunbiade assisted the goal. The score closed the 3-0 triumph.
Game Notes
- Redshirt senior GK Mitch Budler (Lincoln, Neb.) totaled two saves for the Zips out of four total Billikens shots to record his NCAA-leading seventh shutout of the season.
- Akron outshot Saint Louis, 12-4, including 4-2 on net.
- Roman posted a game-high four shots.
