Garretson Advances to NCAA Championships to Lead Akron's Efforts at NCAA East Preliminary Round

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Persevering through weather delays, University of Akron men's track and field redshirt senior Hunter Garretson (Newcomerstown, Ohio) advanced to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Ore. (June 11-14) in the men's pole vault to highlight the efforts of the Zips in second-day competition at the NCAA East Preliminary Round on Thursday (May 29).
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Garretson advanced to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore. (June 11-14) for the third time in his decorated Akron career on the strength of a qualifying mark of 17-5.75 (5.33m). The men's pole vault competition is set for 7:35 p.m. ET on Wednesday (June 11).
• Senior Joy Nwokike (Benin City, Nigeria) moved into the quarterfinal round of the women's 400 meters running a school-record time of 52.39.
• Freshman Rukia Omulisia (Nairobi, Kenya) qualified for the quarterfinals of the women's 100-meter hurdles crossing the line in 13.30.
