Akron Gets Set to Compete in the Magnus Cup

AKRON, Ohio - The Akron swimming and diving team returns to action when it travels to Cleveland State to take part in the three-day Magnus Cup Invitational at Busbey Natatorium from November 20-22.
The Zips were last in action on November 8 when they battled Pittsburgh and Miami (OH). Akron defeated the RedHawks 182-118 while falling to Pittsburgh 173-126.
Akron opened the meet with a statement win in the 200-yard medley relay, as Martyna Piesko, Claire Cox, Felicia Klintemar, and Ada Szwabinska combined for a time of 1:37.81 narrowly out-touching Pitt by just 0.22 seconds.
Ada Szwabinska led the way in the sprints, winning the 50 freestyle in 22.70 and taking second in the 100 freestyle with a time of 49.62. In the breaststroke events, Akron dominated the top spots. Claire Cox captured first in the 100 breaststroke at 1:01.60, while Madelyn Bosler won the 200 breaststroke (2:14.02) and added a second-place finish in the 100 breast (1:02.45).
Martyna Piesko finished second in the 100 backstroke (54.06) and contributed to relay success, while Avery Knight placed fifth in both backstroke distances. Akron closed strong with a victory in the 200 freestyle relay, as Callie Parkes, Hannah Trainer, Brienne Trumpower, and Szwabinska combined for a winning time of 1:30.15.
Akron concluded action at the Magnus Cup Invitational last season with a first-place finish after scoring 1,728.5 points over the three-day event. The Blue and Gold also set four meet records, one school record and one pool record on the final day of competition.
