Trio of Zips Earn All-Region Honors at Great Lakes Regional

AKRON, Ohio - The University of Akron cross country team garnered a strong showing at the 2025 NCAA Great Lakes Regional on Friday (Nov. 14) as a trio of Zips in freshman Mercy Jebitok (Kapsabet, Kenya), sophomore Bismack Kipchirchir (Eldama Ravine, Kenya) and junior Titus Kirui (Eldoret, Kenya) earned All-Region accolades.

Jebitok is expected to qualify for the NCAA Women's Cross Country Championships on the strength of a sixth-place finish in a career-best 6K time of 20:02.73.

Junior Megan Hipple (Warren, Ohio) was next across the line for the Zips with a 30th-place effort in a career-best time of 20:48.13, while juniors Kayla Sucharski (Galena, Ohio) and Kennedy Schlessman (Huron, Ohio) crossed the line in 22:08.39 (113) and 23:22.44 (182), respectively.

For the second consecutive year Kipchirchir will make the NCAA Championships after crossing the line sixth in a time of 29:54.83, while junior Titus Kirui (Eldoret, Kenya) could make the championship race as well after placing 11th in a career-best time of 30:02.92.

Rounding out the scoring efforts for Akron was freshman Noah Nyageo (Kitale, Kenya), junior Majid Abuaun (Rocky River, Ohio) and sophomore Emil Stanford (Sunbury, Ohio) registering times of 30:44.45 (PR-29), 33:03.59 (PR-129) and 33:42.72 (160), respectively.

Additionally, junior Quinn Hopkins (Akron, Ohio) added a time of 34:04.79 (PR-177), while senior Taye Gonzalez (Lewis Center, Ohio) started but didn't finish the race for the Zips.

Selections for the 2025 NCAA Cross Country Championships on Nov. 22 in Columbia, Mo., will be unveiled on Saturday (Nov. 15) at 5 p.m. on NCAA.com.
