Zips Hit .314 in a 3-1 Victory Over Ohio

ATHENS, Ohio -The Akron volleyball team racked up 65 kills on the way to a 3-1 victory (28-26, 24-26, 25-18, 31-29) over the Ohio Bobcats on the road Friday night.
The Zips offense was paced by Delaney Gash, who finished with 24 kills on the day while accumulating a hitting percentage of .303. Gash has recorded 20+ kills in four matches this season. Maureen Mathews followed with 17 while hitting .366. Three other Zips recorded seven or more kills against the Bobcats. Defensively, Akron had two players reach double figures in digs as Martina Villani had 15 and Vanessa Del Real had 14 while Lyndi Wolf led Akron with four blocks. Villani led Akron with 53 assists, the second time this season she's record at least 50, and recorded her third double-double.
The conference win improved Akron's record to 8-6 overall and 1-2 in MAC action.

SET 2 | Akron then dropped set two 26-24, evening things at a set each. The Zips fell in a back-and-forth set, losing in a stanza that featured five lead changes and was tied 19 times. Neither team led by more than three points along the way.
SET 3 | Akron then got back on the winning track, emerging victorious in set three and taking a two sets to one lead in the match. The Zips scored first and never trailed in the set to secure a 25-18 victory. Akron opened up as much as a seven point lead at 22-15 before finishing off the set, collecting 15 kills in the process.
SET 4 | Akron kept the momentum going, claiming the match win with a 31-29 set-four victory. A solid performance on the attacking end led the Zips to victory in the set. Akron put together a .333 attack percentage with 18 kills in the set win. After the lead changed hands five times, the Zips took control for good at 28-27 and rode that advantage to victory.
