WASHINGTON, DC - Led by the first career goal from senior Malik Henry (Hamilton, Ontario), the University of Akron men's soccer team garnered a 1-0 triumph at Georgetown on Saturday (Sept. 28).
The Zips handed the Hoyas their first home shutout loss since the 2018 campaign.
How it Happened
In a showdown of the preseason BIG EAST Conference favorites, Akron and Georgetown battled through a scoreless opening half with both sides recording six shots.
Akron took a 1-0 lead when Henry recorded his first goal of the season in the 52nd minute (51:50), assisted by redshirt seniors Dyson Clapier (Layton, Utah) and Emil Jaaskelainen (Bolton, England).
Redshirt junior GK Mitch Budler (Lincoln, Neb.) was spectacular in goal for the Zips finishing the contest with six saves, while Akron was rewarded from a pair of clearances off the line on the afternoon for a pair of team saves.
