LEXINGTON, Ky. – University of Akron track and field team earned a victory from redshirt junior Jimmy Harkelroad (Huron, Ohio) in the men's 400-meter hurdles as part of six overall top-five performances on the opening day of the Jim Green Invitational hosted by Kentucky on Friday (April 19).
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Harkelroad won the men's 400-meter hurdles in a season-best time of 51.12.
• Redshirt sophomore Gabrielle Griffiths (Fort Worth, Texas) earned a runner-up finish in the women's hammer with a mark of 174-4 (53.14m).
• Junior Joy Nwokike (Benin City, Nigeria) placed third in the women's 200 meters in a career-best time of 23.44, the third-fastest time in outdoor program history.
• Senior Dimitrije Novakovic (Belgrade, Serbia) finished third in the men's long jump with a season-best mark of 23-10 (7.26m).
• Redshirt senior Makenna Heimlich (Shelby, Ohio) placed fourth in the women's 1,500 meters in a time of 2:10.40.
