CLARKSVILLE, TN --The Akron Zips rallied from tied 1-1 in the sixth inning to win in dramatic fashion, earning a 2-1 victory over the Rhode Island Rams Friday at the Cathi Maynard Invitational hosted by Austin Peay as Morgan Sizemore blasted an RBI single to centerfield to score Meagan Lee, securing the win for Akron in the seventh inning. Lee led-off the inning with a bunt for a base hit.

Offensively, the Zips were led by senior Madison Dudek, who went 1-for-2 on the day with a double and an RBI. Junior Autumn Bailey put together a standout performance at the plate as well, going 1-for-1 with a double. Sizemore also helped out for Akron, putting together one hit in four trips to the plate while adding a the game-winning RBI.

Senior Cailey Joyce (4-1) got the win out of the bullpen for Akron (6-8). The right-hander went 1.2 shutout innings, giving up two hits. Freshman Macy Walters started the ballgame and went 5.1 innings, surrendering one run on three hits.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Zips got on the scoreboard first, starting in the third inning. Akron got on the board thanks to Dudek's RBI double.

After the Rams rallied to tie the ballgame at one, the Zips came back to retake the lead in the seventh inning. Akron scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Sizemore, which brought the score to 2-1 in favor of the Zips. The score remained 2-1 for the rest of the game, as Akron held on for the win.
