Swimming & Diving NCAA Championships: 3 Zips Set to Compete at the Biggest Stage

AKRON, Ohio – A trio of Akron swimmers are set to compete in the 2024 NCAA Championships as grad student Weronika Gorecka, senior Madelyn Gatrall, and junior Abigail Daniel are set to compete on the NCAA's biggest stage for the second year in a row. The championships will be held March 20-23 at the Jack Bauerle Pool at the Gabrielsen Natatorium in Athens, Georgia. The University of Georgia will serve as the host.
All three Akron swimmers are set to compete in three events each. Gorecka will compete in the 200 freestyle, 100 backstroke, and 200 backstroke. Gatrall is set for the 100 freestyle, 100 backstroke and the 200 backstroke. Daniel will be in contention for the 200 individual medley, 100 butterfly, and the 200 butterfly. This will be the second straight year that Gorecka, Gatrall, and Daniel each qualified for three events at the NCAA's biggest stage.
Gorecka enters the 2024 NCAA Championships ranked 26th overall in the 200 Back with a 1:53.53 time followed by a 43rd ranking in the 100 Back (52.74) and 46th in the 200 Free (1:45.55).
Gatrall is among the Top 30 in the 100 Back, ranking 30th overall with a 52.10 time, while standing 50th overall in the 200 Back (1:55.59) and 61st in the 100 Free (49.29).
Daniel is making her second appearance at the NCAA meet and ranks 15th in the 100 Fly (51.31), 31st in the 200 IM (1:56.78) and 32nd in the 200 Fly (1:55.50).
The action for the Zips is slated to begin on Thursday, March 21 with the 200 IM (Daniel). On Friday, March 22, all three of Akron's swimmers are set to compete as the 100 Fly (Daniel), 200 Free (Gorecka) and 100 Back (Gorecka & Gatrall) are on deck. The final day of competition also showcases all three Zips with the 200 Back (Gorecka & Gatrall), 100 Free (Gatrall) and 200 Fly (Daniel).
