Bozso Sets New School and Meet Record on Day 1 of CSCAA National Invitational Championship

OCALA, Flo – After the first day of competition for the 2024 CSCAA National Invitational Championships the Akron Zips are in second place with a team score of 199, just .5 behind leader Texas Christian University.
The competition began with the 200 freestyle relay. Kaja Reinhardt (23.41), Aislinn Holder (22.48), Hannah Trainer (22.42), and Rachel Sabotin (22.22) combined for a time of 1:30.53 to take second place. Akron closed the day with Rebecca Reid (54.56), Sara Bozso (1:00.44), Sabotin (52.00), and Astrid Halvorsen (49.51) finishing second in the 400 medley relay with a total time of 3:36.51.
Individual events started with Reid in a tie for fifth place in the 50 backstroke (24.99) and Astrid Halvorsen finishing in the B-Final with a time of 4:52.94 in the 500 freestyle. In the 50 butterfly, Callie Parkes finished in sixth place at 24.39. Holder and Trainer represented Akron in the B-Finals, finishing 11th (24.34) and 14th (24.92) respectively.
Sabotin took third in the 200 IM with a time of 1:59.18 while Reid finished right behind her at 1:59.22 for fourth place. Holder also tied for fifth place in the 50 freestyle with her time of 22.87.
Sara Bozso highlighted the evening by breaking her own school record (28.13) from this morning's prelims with her time of 27.72. Her finals performance not only earned her the gold medal but also a new school record and reset the CSCAA National Invitational Championship meet record that had been set by Danielle Melilli (Queens University Charlotte) at 27.76 in the prelims.
Akron sits in second place out of a field of 47 women's programs that have representation at the event.

The Zips will return to the pool for the second day of competition tomorrow morning at 9:30 AM for prelims with the hope of returning for finals at 6 PM.
