Campbell Collects 3 Hits in Setback to Kentucky

SPARTANBURG, SC --Junior Alexis Campbell collected three hits, but the Akron Zips fell to the Kentucky Wildcats 7-3 Friday.
In addition to her three hits, Campbell had a home run and an RBI to lead the Zips while going 3-for-3 at the plate. Senior Kalli Macintosh-Houlder put together a standout game at the dish as well, going 2-for-3 with her own home run and two RBI. Freshman Mallory Herwerden came out of the bullpen and threw one scoreless inning, allowing no hits, with one walk and one strikeout.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Zips were trailing 4-0 in the second inning when they first put runs on the board. Campbell put Akron on the board with a leadoff home run.
The Wildcats expanded their lead to 7-1 before the Zips offense got back to work, cutting into that lead in the sixth. Akron scored on Macintosh-Houlder's two-run homer, which tightened the Wildcats lead to 7-3. The Zips were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.

» Akron pitchers limited Kentucky to just 1-for-5 (.200) with runners in scoring position.
