Zips Stay in First Place After Second Day of the Magnus Cup Invitational

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Akron swimming and diving team stayed in first place after the second day of the Magnus Cup Invitational.
The Zips lead the Magnus Cup with 1,021 points while Tulane is in second with 765 points and Xavier rounds out the top three with 451.5 points.
Abigail Daniel led the Zips in the 400-yard IM prelims with a time of 4:25.53 and a second-place finish as five total Zips qualified. Felicia Klintemar finished third in the 100-yard butterfly prelims with a time of 54.91 to highlight nine members of the Blue and Gold to qualify.
Elle Couture finished with the third fastest time (1:50.01) in the 200-yard freestyle prelims while nine other Zips qualified. Madelyn Bosler finished third in the 100-yard breaststroke prelims with a time of 1:02.68 as six total six qualified for the finals.
Madelyn Gatrall and Daniel finished first and second in the 100-yard backstroke prelims after swimming times of 53.41 and 54.20 respectively while two other Zips qualified.
In the 1-meter diving, Elizabeth Noble placed first with a score of 247.90 while Paige Bush finished fourth with a score of 244.50.
The 200-yard IM Melday Relay saw another Zips first-place finish after the "Z" squad of Gatrall (24.80), Claire Cox (28.00), Daniel (23.47) and Ada Szwabinska (22.24) finished with a time of 1:38.51.
Daniel and Gatrall both finished in the top five in the 400-yard IM with Daniel finishing first with a time of 4:17.69 and Gatrall finishing fourth with a time of 4:20.91.
Klintemar placed second in the 100-yard butterfly after swimming 53.93 and Aislinn Holder finished fifth with a time of 54.77. Dominika Kossakowska led the way for Akron with a time of 1:49.17 in the 200-yard freestyle while Madelyn Bosler and Cox finished fourth and fifth in the 100-yard breaststroke with times of 1:02.41 and 1:02.69.
Gatrall and Daniel swam the top two times in the 100-yard backstroke after finishing with times of 52.80 and 53.52.
The 800-yard freestyle relay saw the Zips finish second and third. The "A" squad of Helena Lalkovic, Kossakowska, Daniel and Gatrall finished with a time of 7:24.48 and the "K" team of Klintemar, Reid, Szwabinska and Julia Mauter finished with a time of 7:30.11.
The third and final day of the Magnus Cup invite starts Saturday at 9 a.m.
