BOYDS, Md. - The 13th-rated University of Akron men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 overtime decision to No. 24 Georgetown on Thursday (Nov. 14) in the BIG EAST Championship Semifinals at Maryland SoccerPlex.
How it Happened
Georgetown opened the scoring in the match when Marlon Tabora scored in the eighth minute, assisted by Zach Zengue.
Akron trailed at the half, 1-0, as the Hoyas outshot the Zips, 8-3, with each side posting a pair of shots on goal
The Zips responded to tie the game on the NCAA-leading 23rd goal of the season from redshirt senior Emil Jaaskelainen (Bolton, England) in the 55th minute, assisted by junior Ashton Kamdem (West Chester, Ohio) and senior Malik Henry (Hamilton, Ontario).
Akron outshot Georgetown in the second half, 10-6, to force overtime, where Aidan Godinho's 99th-minute (98:13) golden goal, assisted by Max Viera, gave the Hoyas the victory.
Game Notes
- Redshirt junior GK Mitch Budler (Lincoln, Neb.) recorded three saves for the Zips out of 15 total Hoyas shots.
- Akron recorded five shots on goal
- Redshirt seniors Dyson Clapier (Layton, Utah) and Victor Gaulmin (Guipavas, France) along with senior Wan Kuzri Wan Kamal (Carbondale, Ill.) each recorded a game-high three shots for the Zips.
