Zips Secure 3-1 Win Over Youngstown State

YOUNGSTOWN, OH --The Akron volleyball team needed just four sets (25-16, 25-16, 19-25, 25-16) to take down the Youngstown State Penguins Thursday on the road at the Beeghly Center.
The Zips were led by a double-double from Faith Johnson, who registered 18 kills and 10 digs on the day. Emanouela Christodoulou also added 16 kills to help the attack. On the defensive end, Vanessa Del Real chipped in with 14 digs to go with six blocks from Eliska Vytiskova.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Zips grabbed control of the set-one lead at 6-5 and never trailed to win 25-16. Akron opened up its biggest lead, nine points, to close out the set. Akron also supplemented their offense with four aces in the opening set.
SET 2 | Akron took set two 25-16 to quickly grab a 2-0 lead in the match. The Zips never trailed by more than five points and grabbed the advantage for good at 8-7 in a set that showcased four lead changes before Akron took over the lead. The Akron offense also got a boost from four aces in the stanza. Akron's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking six Youngstown State attacks in the stanza.
SET 3 | Akron couldn't end the match in a sweep, dropping set three to make their lead two sets to one in the match. The Zips dropped a tough set 25-19. Akron trailed by as many as 10 points as Youngstown State grabbed the advantage for good at 4-3 in a set that was tied up three times before the Penguins took over the lead.
SET 4 | Akron then responded to close out the match with a 25-16 set-four victory. The Zips took the lead for good at 13-12 in a set that showcased two lead changes before the Zips took over the lead. Akron also supplemented their offense with four aces in the set.
The Zips will be back home tomorrow to face the Vikings of Cleveland State University for their final non-confernce match of the season. First serve from James A. Rhodes Arena is 6 p.m.
