Akron Freshmen Trio Garners MAC Softball Honors

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Led by freshman Brooke Sivek (Boerne, Texas), who garnered First-Team All-Mid-American Conference softball accolades, a trio of University of Akron freshmen earned All-MAC honors when the league unveiled its 2023 award winners on Wednesday, May 10.
Freshmen P Haley Croyle (Hubbard, Ohio), OF Meagan Lee (Leander, Texas) and 2B Sivek rounded out the Zips' recipients pulling in freshman team laurels.

Sivek is the first Akron player to earn First-Team All-MAC honors since Ashley Sims during the 2017 season and the initial second baseman since Cara Cellurale in 1995.
Turning in a stellar rookie campaign, Sivek started all 51 of the Zips' games en route to earning First-Team All-MAC accolades for the initial time. She registered a team-leading .361 batting average on the strength of team-best marks in hits (69), at-bats (191), runs scored (42) and total bases (73), while going 23-for-26 in stolen bases. In league-only affairs, she posted a .343 batting average sparked by team-high marks in at-bats (108), runs scored (24), hits (37), total bases (41) and sacrifice hits (3) and was a perfect 15-for-15 in stolen base attempts. In the field Sivek posted a .943 fielding average.

Starting all 29 games in league play, Sivek led all players in the MAC in conference-only hits (37), stolen bases (15) and at-bats (108) as well as rating sixth in runs scored (24) and ninth in sacrifice hits (3). Among freshmen, she ranked first in league-only affairs in hits (37), runs scored (24), stolen bases (15) and at-bats (108), second in average (.343), total bases (41), third in OPS (.746) and sixth in slugging percentage (.380) and on-base percentage (.366).

Sivek posted two or more hits in 11 conference games this season, including one five-hit contest, and scored a run in 16 contests of which Akron posted a 12-4 record when she did so.

Croyle turned in a strong rookie campaign for the Zips registering a 2.92 ERA and 1.0 WHIP in 17 MAC appearances, including 13 starts. She posted six complete games en route to averaging nearly a strikeout per inning on the strength of 78 strikeouts. Owning a strikeout-walk ratio of 3.9-1.0, she allowed two runs or less in six starts.

She led freshman pitchers in the MAC in league-only opponent batting average (.207) and individual shutouts (1), while ranking second in complete games (6) and games started (13) and third in strikeouts (78). Among eligible pitchers in league affairs, Croyle rated fourth in shutouts (2), sixth in games started (13), seventh in strikeouts (78) and eighth in complete games (6).
Lee started all 50 games she appeared in for Akron, en route to earning all-league honors for the first time. She recorded a .295 overall batting average to go along with 46 hits, 26 runs scored, 21 RBI as part of 48 total bases.

In league only affairs, she elevated her game garnering a team-best .345 batting average fueled by 29 hits, 12 runs scored, 11 RBI and 30 total bases, while drawing a team-high 16 walks.
