Tortorella Earns MAC Pitcher of the Week

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Junior pitcher Sammy Tortorella (Pittsburgh, Pa.) was named Mid-American Conference Pitcher of the Week after a pair of stellar performances against Dayton and Ball State last week, the league announced Monday.
Tortorella threw a complete game shutout to lead the Akron Zips to a 4-0 win over Mid-American Conference leaders Ball State while snapping the Cardinals nine-game winning streak.
Tortorella hurled five no-hit innings while collecting 10 strikeouts with no walks and allowing only four hits in 32 batters faced.
Tortorella also made a mid-week appearance as he started the game against Dayton. In a one inning appearance, he allowed one hit with one strikeout and no walks. The Zips went on to win 9-5.
For the week, Tortorella threw 10 innings, facing 36 batters while allowing no runs with 11 strikeouts, five hits and no walks.
