Akron Finishes Fourth at MAC Championship, Three Zips in Top 20

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Akron Zips posted a tournament-best final round 305 (+17) en route to a 923 (+59) tournament total and fourth place showing at the 2023 Mid-American Conference Women's Golf Championships as senior Jacinta Pikunas (Youngstown, Ohio), sophomore Daphne van Son (Vlijmen, Netherlands) and junior Jessica Hahn (Canton, Ohio) finished among the Top 20 players at Kalamazoo Country Club on Sunday.

Pikunas carded a 79 (+7) final round score and finished 13^th overall with a 74-75-79 – 228 (+12) total, while van Son registered a 78 (+6) and finished tied for 14^th with a 229 (+13) ledger.

Hahn was the second lowest final round scorer for the Zips, firing a 75 (+3) and climbing eight spots on the players' leaderboard to finish tied at 16^th overall with a 78-78-75 – 231 (+15). Hahn completed her final round by recording a birdie on hole 16, an eagle on 17 and a par on 18. She totaled eight par scores, two birdies and an eagle.

Carding the lowest round of the day was freshman Avery Wright (Jackson, Ohio), posting a 74 (+2). Wright finished her first MAC Championship with a 80-82-74 – 236 (+20) total and ranked 28^th overall.

Rounding out Akron's scoring was junior Abbi Fleiner (Reno, Nev.) with an 85-85-78 - 248 (+32) total and tied at 43^rd overall.

Kent State claimed the 2023 MAC title (+11, 291-305-279 - 875), while the Flashes Leon Takagi earned medalist honors (-1, 73-73-69 - 215) and Bowling Green's Kayla Davis (+3, 70-72-77 - 219) was named runner-up.

The MAC Championships concludes the 2022-23 campaign.
