Firestone Records Four RBI in Zips 6-2 Win Over Shawnee State

AKRON, Ohio – Akron opened a four game homestand with a 6-2 win over Shawnee State at Skeeles Field on Wednesday.
Akron scored six runs on six hits as juniors Jack Firestone (Zionsville, Ind.), Jack Poist (Hoover, Ala.) and DJ Butler (Chicago, Ill.) distributed two hits each. Firestone registered triple and a double for a team-high four RBI. Poist and Butler added pair of doubles, while sophomore Sam Seeker (Norton, Ohio) registered the Akron's fifth RBI.
The Zips started the scoring in the first inning as Arrivo walked and Firestone followed with a double to left centerfield, scoring Arrivo from first base. The Bears tied the game 1-1 in the third inning and seized control of the scoreboard with one run in the fourth, 2-1.
Akron answered in the fifth inning, scoring five runs in the fifth on two hits and a Bears throwing error. Firestone plated three runs with a bases loaded triple down the right field line to score Bowman, Butler and Arrivo. Butler reached on a double, while Bowman and Arrivo were hit by pitches. Firestone scored on a wild pitch and Pennington crossed the plate as Seeker grounded out to the shortstop.
Junior pitcher Yassir Kahook (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio) earned the win, throwing 2.0 no-hit innings with two strikeouts.
