Buechte Garners United Soccer Coaches Second-Team Scholar All-America Honors

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – University of Akron men's soccer junior Jonas Buechte (Rantigen, Germany) was selected as a Second-Team Scholar All-America award winner when the United Soccer Coaches unveiled its 2023 Scholar All-America team on Friday, Dec. 15.
Buechte became the ninth Zip to garner United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-America accolades joining Chad Barson (2011, 2012), Orjan Bianeso (2000), Reinaldo Brenes (2013), Scott Caldwell (2011, 2012), David Meves (2012), Justin Millard (1998), Adam Najem (2015, 2016) and Diego Pacheco (2021).
The United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-America citation is the 12th in the Zips' storied men's soccer history, while also marking the 25th overall academic All-America honor in program history.
The award adds to an impressive resume for Pacheco, who was named a Third-Team United Soccer Coaches All-Region selection on Dec. 5.
Buechte collected all-region accolades for the first time en route to helping spearhead Akron's defensive efforts this season that resulted in a league-best 10 shutouts and a 0.56 goals against average.
Buechte started all 18 games for the Zips this season owning three assists on the strength of eight shots, including four on goal.
