Akron Softball Unveils Talented 2024 Signing Class

AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron softball squad under the leadership of second-year head coach Craig Nicholson, has unveiled a talented five-member newcomer class that will hit the field for the Zips during the 2025 campaign.
Donning the Akron uniform in 2025 will be Andrea Day (Hilliard, Ohio), Maddelynn Lee (Osseo, Mich.), Taylor Noe (Stollings, W.Va.), Kate Schell (Beavercreek, Ohio) and Sydney Selker (Sarver, Pa.).
"We are really excited about our 2024 class," said Nicholson. "We added high-level competitors, that are really good in the classroom and on the field, but most importantly they are a group of really good people that will represent this program and The University of Akron in a very positive way."
A native of Hilliard, Ohio, Day, an outfielder/infielder, is a three-year letterwinner at Hilliard Bradley High School where she has helped her squad to conference titles in each of the last two campaigns. A three-time all-conference and two-time all-district honoree, she owns a .428 batting average over her prep career.
A native of Osseo, Mich., Lee, an outfielder/infielder, was an all-state honoree as a junior at Jonesville High School. She posted 252 and 253 strikeouts, respectively, as sophomore and junior. A two-time all-region and all-conference award winner, she helped her squad capture a district title as a sophomore in 2022.
A native of Stollings, W.Va., Noe, an outfielder, arrives at Akron as a three-time all-state honoree at Logan High School where she has posted a .475 career average. She garnered first-team all-state and first-team all-conference accolades as a junior after earning second-team all-state honors as a freshman and sophomore.
A native of Beavercreek, Ohio, Schell, an outfielder, arrives at Akron from Beavercreek High School where she has posted a .397 career average as a three-year letterwinner. A three-time all-conference selection, she helped her squad advance to the regional title game as a freshman and back-to-back appearances in the district final as a sophomore and junior.
A native of Sarver, Pa., Selker, a pitcher/outfielder, arrives at Akron as a three-year letterwinner at Freeport Area High School where she has batted .390 with 11 home runs, 40 RBI and 60 runs scored en route to earning first-team all-state honors three times. In the circle, she struck out 332 over 221.3 innings pitched en route to posting a 2.96 ERA.
"This class has a good combination of speed and power with some pitching that will complement the rest of our staff and compete at a high level," said Nicholson. "They have all played very competitive club schedules and should come into the program prepared to compete right away. We look forward to seeing what this group can accomplish over their careers as a Zip."
