Fleiner Lands in Top 5, Leads Akron to Sixth Place Finish at Shirley Spork EMU Invitational

Ypsilanti, Mich. – Senior Abbi Fleiner (Reno, Nev.) landed in the Top 5 while teammate junior Daphne van Son (Vlijmen, Netherlands) completed the 54-hole Shirley Spork EMU Invitational in the Top 15 as Akron placed sixth overall in team scoring at the Par 72, 6,159-yard Eagle Crest Golf Club on Tuesday.
Fleiner entered Tuesday's final round after posting a career performance on Monday with a 5-under par 67 score and 76 (+4) tally for a 143 (-1) total. She carded a 74 (+2) final round score to finish fourth overall with a 217 (+1) tournament total. Fleiner led the field with 14 birdies, including four in the final 18-hole round. In addition, she finished tied for the top spot in Par 3 scoring with a 3.90 (-3) average.
Van Son followed in scoring for the Zips and also registered a 74 (+2) final round, brining her 54-hole total to 224 (+8). She opened the event with a 2-under par 70 performance and added an 80 (+8) ledger. Van Son registered seven birdies and 33 par scores in 54 holes of play.
Akron finished tied for sixth overall with Mid-American Conference foe Ohio as both teams scored 911 (+47). Akron posted rounds of 303 (+15), 305 (+17) and 303 (+15) as senior Jessica Hahn (+14, 230), sophomore Hridhika Vora (+24, 240), sophomore Avery Wright (+29, 245) and freshman Katrin Horn Danielsdottir (+30, 246) rounded out the scoring for the Zips.
Bowling Green's Ava O'Sullivan earned medalist honors with an 8-under par 208 performance while Oakland's Bridget Boczar finished runner-up with a 7-under par 207 effort. Oakland claimed the team title with an 872 (+28) ledger.
