CLEVELAND, Ohio - University of Akron track and field sophomore Hunter Garretson (Newcomerstown, Ohio) was honored by the Mid-American Conference as its Men's Field Athlete of the Week, the league announced on Wednesday, Jan. 18.

The Zips picked up weekly conference accolades for the initial time in 2023, while Garretson was recognized by the league for the first time this season.
Garretson continued his stellar run of performances winning the men's pole vault at the Akron Quad on Jan. 13 eclipsing 17-2.75 (5.25m), the 19th-best mark in the NCAA this season. His effort also stands as the top-rated effort in the MAC this spring.

The Zips return to competition this Friday, Jan. 20, hosting the annual Akron-Kent State dual at the Stile Athletics Field House starting at 4 p.m.
