AKRON, Ohio – The Akron Zips hosted one of the top offensive teams in the NCAA as Atlantic Coast Conference Georgia Tech defeated Akron 12-0 at Canal Park on Monday evening.

Georgia Tech ranks fourth in the country with a .319 team batting average, sixth in scoring (9.1 runs/g), seventh in slugging percentage (.540) and homeruns per game (1.88). The Yellow Jackets sent five homeruns out of Canal Park for 11 run and manufactured only one run. Tim Borden II put the Yellow Jackets on the scoreboard with a three-run homer in the first inning, Andrew Jenkins followed with a two-run bomb (third inning), Jack Rubenstein registered a three-run shot in the fourth and Stephen Reid hit two bombs, Â a solo homerun (fifth inning) and a two-run bomb (sixth inning). Rubenstein recorded his 24th homerun of the season, just one shy of the Yellow Jackets single-season record. The Yellow Jackets scattered 16 hits total.

The Zips were limited to three hits as Nick Arrivo (Ann Arbor, Mich.) doubled to left center field and Bryant  Shellenbarger (Mount Vernon, Ohio) and Michael Sprockett (West Chester, Ohio) both singled.

The Zips will be back at Skeeles Field for the final series of the season against the Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons on Friday and Saturday, May 20-21. The series opener is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Friday followed by a doubleheader on Saturday at noon and approximately 3 p.m. Fans can watch game one on Zips Digital Network with Chad Welker on the call and or via live stats for all games on GoZips.com.
