MAC Championships: Zips Fourth After Opening Round, David Sixth Overall

Holland, Ohio – The Akron Zips women's golf team finished the first 18-hole round of the 2022 Mid-American Conference Women's Golf Championships on Friday with a 316 (+28) team score, ranking fourth overall at the league finale hosted by Toledo at Stone Oak Country Club.

Sophomore Jennifer David (Hudson, Ohio) paced the Akron scoring with a 76 (+4) opening round, while junior Ivana Shah (Mumbai, India), sophomore Jessica Hahn (Canton, Ohio) and graduate student Ke'Asha Phillips (Owensboro, Ky.) carded 80 (+8) scores. David is currently tied for sixth overall and the trio of 8-over scores by the Zips rank 17th. Rounding out the scoring for the Zips was junior Jacinta Pikunas (Youngstown, Ohio) with an 81 (+9) ledger.

No. 43 ranked Kent State currently leads the team scoring with an 8-over par 296 team tally, while Northern Illinois (+17, 305) and Toledo (+27, 315) finished second and third, respectively. Niu's Jasmine Ly posted a 3-under par 69 opening round to lead the players board, while KSU's Emily Price (-2, 70) and Bowling Green's Kayla Davis (-1, 71) all posted under-par scores.

The second round of the 2022 MAC Championships is scheduled for a 9 a.m. start with the Zips tee-off time slated from hole No. 1 at 10:40 a.m. with Pikunas followed by Phillips (10:50), Hahn (11:00), Shah (11:10) and David (11:20).
