ASUZA, Calif. - The University of Akron track and field team garnered six personal-best marks in second-day competition at the Bryan Clay Invitational hosted by Asuza Pacific on Thursday, April 14.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Senior Alyssa Thomas (Uniontown, Ohio) ran the second-fastest women's 5,000-meter time in program history crossing the line in a career-best time of 16:28.99 to finish sixth. Her performance was a mere nine one-hundredths of a second shy of equaling the school-record time of 16:28.90 set by Michelle Rizzo on April 27, 2000.
Sophomore Blake Lucius (Crestline, Ohio) registered the third-fastest time in outdoor program history in the men's 800 meters crossing the line in 1:48.69.
• Junior Kyra Keurentjes (Wehl, The Netherlands) posted the fifth-fastest time in outdoor program history in the women's 800 meters crossing the line in 2:07.50. Additionally, senior Varvara Lissichkina (Karanganda, Kazahkstan) and sophomore Makenna Heimlich (Shelby, Ohio) added career-best times of 2:10.83 and 2:12.75.
• Senior Lindsey Scarton (Berea, Ohio) placed sixth in the women's 5,000 meters in a season-best time of 17:05.64.
