Standout Performances Highlight Akron's Saturday Track and Field Efforts

AKRON, Ohio – A school-record and four top five program mark highlighted the performances of the University of Akron track and field team at the Florida Relays, Oliver Nikoloff Open and Wooster Invitational on Saturday (April 4).
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Redshirt senior Owen Wendl (Medina, Ohio) captured the men's shot put besting his own school record with a mark of 62-0.50 (18.91m), while also finishing first in the men's discus with a throw of 184-0 (56.09m).
• Freshman Jackline Nanjala (Kitale, Kenya) posted a personal-best time of 52.87 in the women's 400 meters, the No. 2 time in outdoor program history.
• Redshirt senior Brook Boes (Tiffin, Ohio) won the women's discus with a throw of 164-11 (50.27m), while finishing second in the shot put with a mark of 49-1 (14.96m).
• Redshirt senior Lane Graham (Killbuck, Ohio) established a career-best mark of 219-11 (67.03m) to win the men's hammer with the No. 2 effort in outdoor program history, while junior Christopher Vance (Parma, Ohio) placed second with a throw of 201-5 (61.40m).
• Redshirt senior Gabrielle Griffiths (Fort Worth, Texas) bested the field in the women's javelin with a mark of 140-1 (42.71m), while finishing second in the women's hammer with a career-best throw of 194-3 (59.21m), the No. 5 mark in outdoor program history.
• Junior Olin Frank (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) won the men's javelin with a mark of 164-1 (50.02m).
• Junior Augustine Davis (Lewis Center, Ohio) finished second in the women's triple jump with a career-best mark of 37-9.50 (11.52m)
• Sophomore Amari Noble (Virginia Beach, Va.) placed second in the men's discus with a career-best mark of 177-5 (54.09m).
