Pikunas Leads Akron to a Runner-Up Finish at the 2022 Dolores Black Falcon Invitational

Bowling Green, Ohio – Junior Jacinta PIkunas (Youngstown, Ohio) recorded back-to-back 73 (+1) scores en route to leading the Akron Zips golf team to a runner-up finish at the 2022 Dolores Black Falcon Invitational hosted by Bowling Green at Stone Ridge Golf Club on Sunday.
Pikunas finished the 36-hole tournament in a three-way tie with BG's MacKenzie Moore and Detroit Mercy's Alexa Hatz and needed a playoff to decide medalist honors. After five playoff holes, Moore claimed the award and Pikunas was named runner-up. Hatz competed in four playoffs before ending in the third spot. All three golfers carded a 146 (+2).
As a team, Akron posted rounds of 307 (+19) and-301 (+13) for a 608 (+32) tournament total which was good for second place. The Zips entered the final round tied with the Falcons, but BGSU tallied an even-par 288 final round for the tournament title.
Also finishing in the Top 15 in scoring for Akron were sophomore Jennifer David (Hudson, Ohio) and junior Ivana Shah (Mumbai, India). David landed 11th overall with a 153 (+9) with rounds of 76 (+4) and 77 (+5), while Shah registered 18-hole totals of 80 (+8) and 74 (+2) for a 15th-place 10-over par finish (154). Rounding out the Zips scoring were sophomore Jessica Hahn (Canton, Ohio) and graduate student Ke'Asha Phillips (Owensboro, Ky.). Hahn was 26th overall with an 80-77 – 157 (+13) score, and Phillips was 32nd overall with 78-81 – 159 (+15) scores.
Next up for Akron is the 2022 Mid-American Conference Women's Golf Tournament hosted by Toledo at Stone Oak Country Club in Holland, Ohio on Friday through Sunday, April 22-24.
