AKRON, Ohio -Â The University of Akron men's and women's track and field teams continue their spring campaign traveling to Texas for a pair of meets this weekend

UP NEXT: The Zips are in Texas where Akron will be competing at the Texas Relays in Austin as well as the Bobcat Invitational in San Marcos this Thursday through Saturday, March 24-26.

TEXAS RELAYS: The 94th annual Texas Relays will draw athletes among the high school, collegiate and professional ranks from around the country and the world for its annual meet this week.
The men's decathlon and women's heptathlon will be contested on Wednesday and Thursday, March 23-24. The women's heptathlon commences the Texas Relays at 11 a.m. ET on Wednesday. Second-day competition in the men's decathlon begins at 11 a.m. ET. on Thursday.
Field events kick off with the women's hammer on Thursday at 12 p.m. ET, with running events getting underway with the women's 400-meter hurdles at 5:30 p.m. ET. The women's 4x100 relays start competition on Friday at 10:30 a.m. ET with the distance medley relay rounding out the day at 7:05 p.m. ET. The finals of the 4x400 relays will conclude the Texas Relays on Saturday, March 26, starting at 5:05 p.m. ET.

BOBCAT INVITATIONAL: Akron will also participate in the Bobcat Invitational hosted by Texas State beginning on Thursday and running through Saturday, March 24-26, in San Marcos, Texas.
The women's javelin will commence competition in the field on Thursday at 10 a.m. ET, before track events begin at 7 p.m. ET. Second-day competition commences with the women's hammer at 10 a.m. ET on Friday, before the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase caps the day's action at 6:55 p.m. ET. Saturday kicks off with the men's high jump at 11 a.m. ET and the women's 4x100 relay at 3 p.m. ET.

NATIONAL RANKINGS: The University of Akron track and field teams garnered recognition for their efforts during the 2022 indoor season as the Zips were rated in the Event Squad rankings released on March 1, 2022, as part of the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field National Rating Index.

Akron ranked 12th nationally in the men's triple jump as well as rating among the top 20 in five different events.

The Zips also rated 14th in the women's pole vault, 15th in the men's 400 meters, 20th in the men's long jump and weight throw.

The Akron men and women ranked eighth and ninth, respectively, in the Great Lakes Regional polls.

ZIPS RANK AMONG NATION'S BEST IN 2022 TFRRS RANKINGS: Akron has one student-athlete currently ranked in the top-30 nationally by the Track and Field Results Reporting System (TFRRS) during the 2022 outdoor campaign, led by sophomore Caleb Mabins (Erie, Pa.), who is 28th in the nation in the men's long jump (24-0.25/7.32m).

CRACKING THE ALL-TIME TOP-FIVE PERFORMANCES: The Zips added 24 top-five performances in program history to the record book during the 2022 indoor campaign, including five school records.

STOKOWSKA NAMED MAC WOMEN'S ASSISTANT COACH OF THE YEAR: The University of Akron track and field assistant coach Dominika Stokowska was recognized as the 2022 Mid-American Conference Women's Indoor Track and Field Assistant Coach of the Year.

Under the guidance of Stokowska, the Zips dominated the women's field at the MAC Indoor Track and Field Championships Feb. 25-26 in Kent, Ohio. Her athletes registered 60 points in the women's competition, including individual titles in the women's 60 and 200 meters, as well as the women's triple jump. Additionally, the Zips placed second in the women's 400 meters and third in the women's long jump.

Junior Amya Clarke (Christ Church, St. Kitts and Nevis) claimed a pair of league titles winning the 60 and 200 meters crossing the line in 7.34 and 24.09, respectively. Her performance in the 60 meters stands as a school-record time and equaled the fastest effort in MAC Indoor Track and Field Championship history. Her showing in the 200 meters established a new career-best performance and stands as the fifth-fastest time in indoor program history.

Clarke became the first Zip to capture both the women's 60 and 200 meters in the same indoor championship in program history and was rewarded with her selection at the MAC's Most Valuable Performer.

Freshman Fegor Clifford (Delta State, Nigeria) won her first league title in the women's triple jump on the strength of a career-best mark of 41-11.25 (12.78m), the No. 4 mark in indoor program history. Additionally, she placed second in the women's 400 meters in a career-best time of 55.02, the third-fastest time in indoor program history.

Additionally, Jacqueline Pokuaah added team points placing third, sixth and seventh, respectively, in the long jump (20-1,50/6.13m), 60 meters (7.73) and 60-meter hurdles (8.66), while freshman Janay Bass (Akron, Ohio) finished fourth in the 400 meters in a career-best time of 55.84, and Clifford placed eighth in the long jump (19-0.50/5.80m).
ZIPS MAC CHAMPIONSHIP AWARD WINNERS: Akron's Amya Clarke became the first Zip to capture both the women's 60 and 200 meters in the same indoor championship in program history and was rewarded with her selection at the MAC's Most Valuable Performer.

Freshman Taylor Shriver (Waynesburg, Pa.) placed second in the women's pole vault eclipsing 13-4.25 (4.07m). Her performance earned her MAC Women's Freshman Field Performer of the Meet accolades.

Additionally, head coach Dennis Mitchell was named the MAC Women's Coach of the Year.
