Lakewood Ranch, Fla. – The Akron Zips golf team opened the Mid-American Match Play Challenge tied with Eastern Michigan as both teams won a pair of matches, tied the fifth and deciding match and Akron earned the tiebreaker by winning three more holes than the Eagles on Monday afternoon at the 6,068-yard, Par-72 Royal Lakes course at Lakewood Ranch Golf and Country Club.

Akron sophomore Jennifer David (Hudson, Ohio) earned a 6&4 win over the Eagles' Anna Watson and junior Jacinta Pikunas (Youngstown, Ohio) posted a 5&4 win over EMU's Sophia Wygonik to secure 11 winning holes for the Zips.

Sophomore Jessica Hahn (Canton, Ohio) earned a split decision with Eastern Michigan's Kyleigh Dull, while junior Ivana Shah (Mumbai, India) and sophomore Riley Dean (Lewis Center, Ohio) fell 1UP and 7&6 to Natai Apichonlati and Alyssa DiMarcantonio, respectively. The Eagles won eight holes on the day.

Akron is scheduled to be back in action against the top-seeded Central Michigan Chippewas on Tuesday morning at 7:50 a.m. with Dean leading the way against CMU's Ashley Goh, followed by Shah vs Rachel Kauflin (7:57), Pikunas vs Claudia Salvador (8:04), Hahn vs Padgett Chitty (8:11) and David vs Casilda Allendesalazar (8:18).
