Gatrall Earns MAC Swimmer of the Week Honors

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Junior Madelyn Gatrall was named Mid-American Conference women's swimmer of the week after a phenomenal showing at the 2022 Zippy Invitational, the league announced Thursday.
During the four-day meet, Gatrall won eight events including three individual events and five relays while achieving two NCAA B-Cut times and setting a new Mid-American Conference record.
Gatrall registered the record-breaking performance as the leadoff of the 400-yard medley relay team, snapping the MAC and Akron 100-yard backstroke standard with a 51.84 time. Gatrall replaced the 52.10 record set by Sadie Fazekas in 2019 at the MAC Championships hosted at Akron. The 400-yard medley relay team won gold with a 3:35.48 time.
Gatrall backed-up her record-breaking performance by clocking a 51.85 time in the 100-yard backstroke for gold and posted another NCAA B-Cut time as she won the 50-yard freestyle (22.52). The Windsor, Ontario native also won the 200-yard backstroke with a 1:53.50 ledger.
Gatrall was a member of five winning relay events and posted the fastest split times in all but one, clocking a 22.34 in the 200 Free Relay (1:30.23), a 49.33 in the 400 Free Relay (3:18.16) and a 1:47.35 in the 800 Free Relay (7:15.67). The 200-yard medley relay team flew to a 1:37.82 time, just two-tenths of second from the meet record as Gatrall posted a 24.42 split.
Gatrall shared the MAC weekly honor (12.8.22) with Miami's Nicole Maier.
