Five Zips Earn United Soccer Coaches All-North Regional Accolades

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – University of Akron men's soccer redshirt freshman Mitch Budler (Lincoln, Neb.), sophomore Dyson Clapier (Layton, Utah), juniors Will Jackson (Hudson, Ohio) and Joel Sangwa (Phoenix, Ariz.) and sophomore Jason Shokalook (Erie, Pa.) added to their impressive Zips' resumes on Tuesday, Dec. 6, as the United Soccer Coaches tabbed the Akron quintet as 2022 All-North Regional honorees.
Clapier garnered first-team regional accolades for the first time and is now eligible to garner All-America accolades when the United Soccer Coaches unveils its 2022 class on Friday, Dec. 9.
All five Zips earned All-North Regional honors for the first time, with Jackson, Sangwa and Shokalook recognized as second-team recipients for the Zips, while Budler collected third-team honors.
Budler pulled in All-Region honors for the first time after starting all 20 contests for the Zips en route to posting seven shutouts on the strength of 51 saves and a 1.15 goals against average. He ranked third in the MAC in goals against average (1.15), save percentage (.689) and shutouts (.350) and fifth in saves per game (2.55). In league-only affairs, he led the conference in goals against average (.500) and shutouts (.500), while rating third in saves percentage (.800) and sixth in saves per outing (2.00).
Clapier started all 18 games he appeared in for Akron this fall en route to leading the team in assists (7), shots (38) and game-winners (3), while ranking second in goals (7), points (21) and shots on goal (19). Clapier rated third in the MAC in assists (.389), goals (.389), points (1.17) and game-winners (.167), fifth in shots on goal (1.06) and sixth in shots (2.11). In league-only games, he ranked fourth in assists (.625), sixth in points (1.13) and eighth in shots (1.63) per tilt.
A team captain, Jackson started 16 of the 18 games he appeared in for Akron this past season. He helped direct a Zips' defensive unit that posted seven shutouts on the campaign, while adding three goals, four assists and a pair of game-winning goals on the strength of 24 shots, including seven on goal.
Sangwa provided an immediate impact on the Zips in his first season at Akron starting all 20 games to help spark the squad's defensive unit to seven shutouts. He tallied four goals on the strength of eight shots, including four on goal, while netting a pair of game-winning goals.
Having started 17 of the 18 games he appeared in for Akron this fall, Shokalook posted team-best marks in goals (9), points (24), shots (38) and shots on goal (22), while ranking second in assists (6) and game-winners (2). He ranked second in the MAC in goals (.500), points (1.33) and shots on goal (1.22), while rating sixth in shots (2.11), seventh in assists (.333) per contest and ninth in game-winners (.111). In league-only matches, he ranked first, second, second, second and seventh, respectively, in goals (.500), points (1.38), shots (2.50), shots on goal (1.38) and assists (.375) per outing.
