Embick Honored as MAC Men’s Soccer Coach of the Year

CLEVELAND, Ohio – University of Akron men's soccer head coach Jared Embick was tabbed as the 2022 Mid-American Conference Gary V. Palmisano Men's Soccer Coach of the Year as announced by the league on Thursday, Nov. 10.
In his 10th year as head coach and 16th campaign overall with Akron, Embick earned MAC Coach of the Year accolades for only the second time after guiding the Zips to their 21st regular season MAC title on the strength of a 5-0-3 league mark this fall.
Embick collected the 12th MAC Coach of the Year award in Akron men's soccer program history joining Caleb Porter (2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012), Ken Lolla (1993, 1995, 1998 and 2005) and himself (2019) as past recipients.
A league-best eight Akron players garnered All-MAC accolades in 2022 under Embick's tutelage led by sophomores Jonas Buechte (Rantigen, Germany), Dyson Clapier (Layton, Utah) and Malik Henry (Hamilton, Ontario), junior Will Jackson (Hudson, Ohio) and sophomore Jason Shokalook (Erie, Pa.), who earned first-team honors. Additionally, juniors Johnny Fitzgerald (Tallahassee, Fla.) and Joel Sangwa (Phoenix, Ariz.) along with sophomore Wan Kuzri Wan Kamal (Carbondale, Ill.) were tabbed second-team recipients.
Ranking seventh in NCAA D1 men's soccer in victories (124) since he took over as head coach in 2013, Embick has led the Zips to six regular season MAC titles (2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2019 and 2022), six MAC Tournament championships (2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018), seven NCAA Tournament appearances (2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2021) and three berths in the NCAA College Cup (2015, 2017, 2018).
