UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The University of Akron men's and women's track and field teams registered a trio of triumphs en route to registering 19 overall top-five performances at the Sykes-Sabock Challenge Cup hosted by Penn State on Saturday, Jan. 29.
"It was good to see the team mature more with improved performances today," Akron head track and field coach Dennis Mitchell commented. "We were very competitive in so many events, with quite a few personal records. I am very excited to see what we can do this weekend in front of the home crowd at the Akron Invite."

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Senior Jacob Ondash (Hiram, Ohio) nearly became the second Zip to run a sub-4:00 mile as the turned in the second-fastest time in indoor program history crossing the line in a career-best time of 4:04.45.
• Sophomore Zarik Brown (Dayton, Ohio) posted the third-fastest time in indoor program history crossing the line in a career-best time of 6.70 to win the men's 60 meters.
• Sophomore Blake Lucius (Crestline, Ohio) recorded the fifth-best performance in indoor program history in the men's 800 meters with a career-best time of 1:50.58 to place fifth overall.
• Freshman Jimmy Harkelroad (Huron, Ohio) won the men's 600 meters in a time of 1:19.85.
• Freshman Taylor Shriver (Waynesburg, Pa.) eclipsed 13-4.25 (4.07m) to finish second in the women's pole vault.
• Junior Amya Clarke (Christ Church, St. Kitts and Nevis) and freshman Fegor Clifford (Delta State, Nigeria) each posted career-best times to cross the line second and third, respectively, in the women's 200 meters in 24.55 and 24.72. Additionally, Clifford finished fourth in the women's long jump with a mark of 18-8.75 (5.71m).
• Junior Jacqueline Pokuaah (Akron, Ohio) finished third in the women's long jump with a career-long jump of 19-11 (6.07m), while also placing fourth in the women's 60 meters in 7.72.
• Freshman Beth Arentz (Cronulla, Australia) placed fourth in the women's mile in 4:51.72.
• Redshirt sophomore Charles Sanders (Cincinnati, Ohio) placed fifth in the men's 400 meters in 48.30.
• The Zips earned four of the top-five finishes in the men's long jump led by sophomore Caleb Mabins (Erie, Pa.), who won the event with a career-long mark of 23-4 (7.11m). Senior Hesham Eldesouky (Nasr City, Egypt) and sophomores Dimitrije Novakovic (Belgrade, Serbia) and Haruki Sakai (Katori, Japan) added marks of 23-0 (7.01m), 22-10.50 (6.97m) and 22-2.50 (6.77m) to place second, third and fifth, respectively.
• Junior Nuh Andu (Doha, Qatar) bested the field in the men's high jump with a season-best mark of 7-0.50 (2.15m), the No. 24 mark in the NCAA this season.
• Redshirt junior Milton Wilson (Streetsboro, Ohio) placed fourth in the men's weight throw with a mark of 64-1 (19.53m).
• The men's 4x400 relay team of Sanders, Harkelroad, Lucius and freshman Jean Dieuvil (North Miami Beach, Fla.) posted a second-place finish in a season-best time of 3:14.25.
• The women's 4x400 relay team of Clifford, freshman Janay Bass (Akron, Ohio), junior Sara Foster (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio) and senior Varvara Lissichkina (Karaganda, Kazahkstan) earned a second-place finish in a season-best time of 3:46.46.
