AKRON, Ohio – The No. 23 ranked Akron swimming and diving program will be back in action in split locations this weekend. The swimmers hit the water at Oliver J. Ocasek Natatorium on Friday, Nov. 14 at 4 p.m. as the Zips host the Ohio Bobcats for a dual meet. The diving squad travels to Buffalo for the three-day UB Diving Invite.

Prior to the home dual meet the Akron will recognize its senior swimmers – 2021-22 graduating seniors, Lauren Cooper, Olivia Gardner, Paula Garcia, Kamryn Goodrick, Sofia Henell, Brooke Lamoureux, Paulina Nogaj and Sarah Watson. Senior recognition begins at 3:40 p.m.
Akron and Ohio are set to dual for the fifth-straight season under the guidance of eighth year head coach Brian Peresie. The Zips have won the last four meetings, claiming 207.5-92.5 (2020-21), 182-116 (2019-20), 201-96 (2018-19) and 193-106 (2017-18). The Akron divers are scheduled to compete in three different events on Friday-Sunday, Jan. 14-16. All three days are scheduled to begin with prelims at 11 a.m. followed by finals. The MAC field of Buffalo (host), Akron, Bowling Green, Ohio, and Toledo is scheduled to compete on the 1-meter board on Friday (Jan. 14), followed by the 3-meter board on Saturday (Feb. 15), and concluding the invite on Sunday (Feb. 16) with the platform diving event.

The Zips are off to an impressive start to the season by winning the Akron Zips Classic, Magnus Cup Invitational and the Zippy Invitational, while claiming 2-of-3 dual meets. Akron defeated Miami at home, Eastern Michigan on the road and fell to Ohio State at home. The Zips have earned multiple NCAA D1B qualifying times and NCAA Diving Zone qualifying performances.

In addition, Watson garnered three MAC Swimmer of the Week awards this season, while and Kalik claimed a pair MAC Diver of the Week accolades.Â
