TOLEDO, Ohio - The University of Akron softball team suffered an 8-1 setback in its Mid-American Conference series opener at Toledo (28-22, 18-16 MAC) on Friday, May 14.

The Zips (8-43, 7-30 MAC) were directed offensively by hits from freshman 3B Kalli Macintosh-Houlder (Mississauga, Ontario), senior SS Samantha Malik (Orlando, Fla.) and redshirt freshman CF Tiffany Stevens (Toledo, Ohio).

The Rockets opened the scoring with a single tally in the bottom of the second inning before Akron responded plating a run in the top of the fourth inning.

The Zips evened the game at one in the fourth inning on a two-out bases loaded walk by freshman 2B Madison Dudek (Uniontown, Ohio).

The two teams resume their series with a doubleheader on Saturday, May 15. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
