AKRON, Ohio – Akron Zips swimming and diving junior Sara Watson (Winnipeg, Manitoba) qualified to participate in the 2021 NCAA Division I Women's Swimming and Diving Championships on March 17-20 at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, N.C. North Carolina State University and the Greensboro Sports Foundation will serve as co-hosts.

Watson qualified for the 2021 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships with the 24th fastest time in the country in the 100-yard butterfly as she flew to a 52.07 time at the Akron Last Chance Meet on Feb. 27. Watson is also set to compete in the 100-yard freestyle and the 200-yard individual medley. Watson owns the 47th fastest time in the 100 Free at 48.84, which she set at the 2020 Zippy Invitational on Dec. 5, and clocked a 1:59.28 time in the 200 IM at the Notre Dame's 2021 Shamrock Sessions on Jan. 22.

The swimming and diving championships are slated to begin at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, March 17 with the 800-yard freestyle relay being the lone event. On Thursday, March 18, the action begins for Watson in the 200 IM, which is the third event of the preliminaries' session. The preliminary rounds are scheduled to start at 10 a.m. followed by the finals at 6 p.m.

Watson continues her quest for a NCAA Championship on Friday, March 19 and Saturday, March 20. On Friday, Watson is scheduled to compete in the 100 Fly which is the second event of the session and the following day she will the 100 Free race which currently stands as the third event of the session.

A total of 322 participants (281 swimmers and 41 divers) will compete in the championships. Swimmers qualified for the championships by meeting the established minimum time for the events in which they entered. Divers will be determined by performances at the Zone Diving Meets.
