BUFFALO, N.Y. – Senior Andrea Bugariu (Shelby Township, Mich.) led the Akron women's diving team with a ninth-place finish in the 1-meter dive at the UB Diving Invite hosted by Buffalo on Friday afternoon at Alumni Arena Pool and Natatorium.

Bugariu's dive was rated at a 14.2 degree of difficulty and was ranked 10th overall after six rounds of preliminaries. She advanced to the finals with 262.70 points. Bugariu improved by almost 11 points on final six dives to finish ninth overall out of 21 competitors with a 273.65 finals score.

Sophomore Paige Kalik (Irwin, Pa.) followed with a 12th place finish on a 14.8 difficulty scale. She posted a 269.60 prelim score to advance into the finals at ninth overall. In the finals, she garnered 266.60 points which was good for a 12th place finish.

Senior Megan Nugent (Rochester, N.Y.) also competed for the Zips. Ahe finished just outside the Top 12 during the preliminary round, landing 14th overall with a 249.05 total score on six dives at 14.6 degree of difficulty.

Eastern Michigan's Bethany Berger won the 1-meter diving event with a 307.15 final score. Her 15.0 degree of difficulty dive ranked highest among the 21-diver field. She posted a 310.30 score in prelims.

The UB Diving Invite showcases a different diving event, starting with the 1-meter dive, followed by the 3-meter dive, and ending with the platform dive. Teams begin warm-ups at 9 a.m. each day and prelims are slated to start at 11 a.m. Finals will follow approximately 12:30 p.m. Fans can follow the action live on YouTube Live Stream or scoring via divemeets.com (DiveMeets).

The UB Diving Invite features 33 divers from six Mid-American Conference teams, including host Buffalo (5), Akron (5), Bowling Green (6), Eastern Michigan (8), Ohio (4) and Toledo (5).
