Pacheco Named First-Team United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-America Honoree

2021 UNITED SOCCER COACHES SCHOLAR ALL-AMERICA AWARDS RELEASE
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – University of Akron men's soccer senior Diogo Pacheco (Lisbon, Portugal) was selected as a First-Team Scholar All-America award winner when the United Soccer Coaches unveiled its 2021 Scholar All-America team on Thursday, Dec. 16.
Pacheco became the seventh Zip to garner First-Team United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-America accolades joining Chad Barson (2011, 2012), Reinaldo Brenes (2013), Scott Caldwell (2011, 2012), David Meves (2012), Justin Millard (1998) and Adam Najem (2015, 2016). Additionally, Barson and Orjan Bianeso earned second-team honors in 2011 and 2000, respectively.
The United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-America citation is the 11th in the Zips' storied men's soccer history, while also marking the 24th overall academic All-America honor in program history.
The award adds to an impressive resume for Pacheco, who was named a Third-Team United Soccer Coaches All-America selection on Dec. 9.
Pacheco became the 44th Akron player to capture United Soccer Coaches All-America accolades and first since former teammate David Egbo earned Third-Team All-America honors in 2018.
The United Soccer Coaches All-America citation was the 60th in the Zips' storied men's soccer history.
Pacheco earlier garnered first-team regional accolades for the first time a year after pulling in second team honors a season ago.
Pacheco was tabbed a First-Team All-Mid-American Conference honoree this fall for the second time after starting 11 of the 17 games he appeared in for the Zips. He registered team-high marks in goals (7), assists (7), points (21), shots (48), shots on goal (14) and game-winners (2). He ranked 53rd in the NCAA in assists (7), 57th in points (1.24) and shots per game (2.82) and 59th in assists per contest (0.41), while finishing second in the MAC in points (1.24), third in assists (.412), goals (.412) and shots (2.82) and eighth in game-winners (.118). In league-only affairs, Pacheco led the conference in goals (.667), while rating third in shots (3.33), fourth in game-winners (.167) and fifth in assists (.333) and shots on goal (1.00).
