Akron Travels to Eastern Michigan for Dual Meet

AKRON, Ohio – The Akron swimming and diving team will be on the road for the first time in 2021-22 season as the Zips travel to Eastern Michigan for a dual meet on Saturday, Nov. 6 at 2 p.m.

Akron and Eastern Michigan are set to meet for the seventh time under the guidance of eighth year head coach Brian Peresie. The Eagles hold the series advantage 4-2 as the Zips have claimed the last two consecutive meetings, defeating the Eagles 175-125 (2019-20) and 204-96 (2020-21). EMU won the first four dual meets by scores of 169-125 (2013-14), 223-77 (2014-15), 158-142 (2015-16) and 162-138 (2017-18).

Akron is coming off a 190-110 Mid-American Conference dual meet win over Miami, where the Zips claimed 13-of-16 first place finishes. Among the winners were senior Sarah Watson (Winnipeg, Manitoba), senior Paula Garcia (Madrid, Spain), senior Andrea Fischer (Oak Grove, Minn.), senior Brooke Lamoureux (Victoria, Canada), senior Paulina Nogaj (Polish Swimming Federation), junior Rachel Schiffli (Indianapolis, Ind.), junior Weronika Gorecka (Wroclaw, Poland), junior Paige Kalik (Irwin, Pa.) and sophomore Madelyn Gatrall (Windsor, Ontario, Canada).
The Zips had an impressive start to the season at the Zips Classic as the squad set eight meet records and posted seven NCAA D1B qualifying times along with achieving three NCAA Diving Zone qualifying performances.

Watson and Kalik swept the MAC weekly awards after the first week of competition (Zips Classic). Watson claimed MAC Swimmer of the Week honors for winning every event she entered while setting three meet records and posting a pair of NCAA D1B qualifying times. Kalik earned MAC Diver of the Week honors with a pair of NCAA Diving Zones qualifying performances en route to first- and second-place finishes.
